Gaming starts off with a BANG in the 80s. In 1980, one of the most popular games in history comes out: Pac-Man. Pac-man was a game everyone knew about. If you didn't know already, to play you moved Pac-Man around the screen, eating all the dots and fruit while avoiding the ghost. If he eats a magic orbs, all the ghost become blue, and he can eat the ghost for tons of points. If Pac-Man wasn't enough, in 1982 Ms. Pac-Man comes out to attract a gender rivalry. Another big game in the 1980s was Donkey Kong in 1981. Donkey Kong captured Jumpman's girlfriend Pauline and takes her to a construction site and Jumpman has to save her. Another popular game is Tetris. It was the worlds most popular puzzle game at the time. You just had to connect matching blocks without going over the line at the top. We are still not done with all the popular games in the 80s. Next we a popular Nintendo series: The Legend of Zelda. In the original game, Link had to save Princess Zelda from Ganon. Ganon hides his lair, so Link has to find the three pieces of the triforce to find it. To wrap all the great games in the 1980s, is the original Madden NFL. It really called John Madden Football. John Madden was a legendary coach for the raiders when Bo Jackson played. This game was played on the computer.
Next lets talk about the consoles now. First we have Nintendo's first console: The Nintendo Entertainment System. The NES was the best console when it came out, and had tons of new games. One of witch came with the console, New Super Mario Brothers. This game starred Mario, who used to be Jumpman, and his bro Luigi, who venture out to battle Bowser and save Princess Peach. It became the most popular RPG series in history. This game alone increased the NES's sales and the NES had ton's of games. It also had Techno Bowl, the NES version of John Madden Football. Next we have a big thing in gaming history: The first handheld system. Thats right. It's the Nintendo Game Boy. The Game Boy was the first handheld console and ran on game cartridges. Now people can take gaming wherever they went so the didn't have to play at home. Two Game Boys could communicate by connecting a cord to both Game Boys and two players could play together or against each other. It was a big part of gaming history and kicked off handheld gaming.
