The 1960s was a great year for gaming and really made it take of. Spacewar in 1962 was the first computer based video game. It was for two player and had ships shooting torpedos at each other and it quickly spread around the world. Then in 1965, after Dartmouth Beats Princeton in the Ivy league Championship, Dartmouth students make the first computer football game ever. They made it using BASIC (Beginners All-Purpose Symbolic Instruction Code). It was made by Microsoft the previous year and allowed everyone to make games. The next thing that happens is really REALLY important. In 1966, Ralph Baer coined the idea to play video games on a TELEVISION. Yeah. I'm sure most you play your video games on your TV. Well, you have Baer to thank. Anyway, the next year he produced the Brown Box, a console that connected to your computer and had tennis and other games. That was the first console. But the first console for television (again, by Baer) was patented in 1968, put since it wasn't released till 1972, I won't spoil it here. You have to check out the 1970s to learn more!
